MARGOT

[1982, Issoudun, France]

Margot wishes to be called by this name. From a farming background, she first worked as a florist before beginning an artistic practice in 2014, which she made her main activity. She uses India ink, pencils, pastels, and ballpoint pen to create very large-format works on paper, depicting abstract forms from which human figures emerge. She also works on archival photographs. The result sometimes resembles tattoos, sometimes scarifications, or even illuminations framing the figures. From these drawings emerge faces that echo the photographic subject, as if it were possessed by spirits.
