Eric Derkenne attended La « S » Grand Atelier in Vielsalm from 1995 to 2011, making drawing his primary mode of expression. His compositions are often monochromatic and focus on the human figure and the face. His pen and gouache drawings, densely filled with eyes, noses, and mouths, drawn with countless overlapping lines, convey a surprising range of emotions. Beneath their monstrous appearance lies a subtle palette of feelings: astonishment, distrust, confusion, shame, irritation, dread, fear, and taboo.
