CRESCENTI.Attilio.1059

At nine months old, Attilio Crescenti suffered from meningitis that left him with irreversible aftereffects, and at the age of three he had a serious fall from a building. The following year, his family placed him in an institution for so-called “problem” children, where doctors discovered that he was deaf. Attilio Crescenti never learned to speak and communicated only through signs and facial expressions. At the age of sixty-one, he left the hospital for a care home and began to draw. Although not very numerous, his works suggest fragmented bodies, scattered limbs, constructed from protuberances resembling metastases that proliferate endlessly.
