Kenji Yoshikawa works as a maintenance worker and lives within the Count 5 association in Higashimatsuyama. He divides his time between his job and an intense artistic activity. He is passionate about wrestling, rock music, and certain celebrities. He draws inspiration from photographs found in magazines to depict his idols using colored pencils, felt-tip pens, or oil pastels. Wrestling masks are omnipresent in his work: he uses them both when drawing his favorite wrestlers and when making “portraits” of other famous figures. In this series, where he directly borrows the composition of easily recognizable album covers, the musicians themselves appear masked and, as a result, anonymous.
