Elke Tangeten, originally from the German-speaking community, naturally speaks German and has an excellent command of French. As an adult, she worked in a sheltered workshop until an accident in 1994 put an end to this activity. In 2012, she joined the art center La « S » Grand Atelier, where she developed a passion for textiles. She explored embroidery, knitting, and weaving before favoring embroidery on images as her main mode of expression.
Marked by a nostalgia for childhood, she works on magazines from the 1960s and popular images, such as religious chromolithographs. Her embroidered Madonnas, created as part of the Ave Luïa project (2013–2015), are a strong example. Deeply attached to memory, she also works on personal and family photographs, enriched with embroidery, beads, feathers, and precious objects.
