SMITH richard c.

[1950, Royaume-Uni]

A curious and studious child with an interest in art, Richard C. Smith nevertheless left school at fifteen. He fell into drug use and, until the 1990s, led a chaotic life of odd jobs and stints in prison. During his years of incarceration, he began creating using whatever materials were at hand. Since then, he has painted, drawn, sculpted, assembled, and customized furniture — all using recycled materials found on the streets. His severish work is populated by ghostly human forms, intertwined with each other.
