A self-taught artist, William Scott creates his works with remarkable precision, paying constant attention to the smallest details. He draws, paints, and reconstructs his hometown of San Francisco, which he reinvents as “Praise Frisco”: an ideal place imagined by the artist, where everyone can find a form of salvation, where human relationships are peaceful, and where the architecture and geography of neighborhoods are elevated and idealized.
His work also celebrates African American beauty through portraits of figures from the entertainment world, as well as neighbors, friends, and people from his own community. William Scott works at the art studio of the Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, a place dedicated to supporting the creative practices of artists with disabilities.
