SAKAGAMI chiyuki

[1961, Préfecture De Hyogo, Japon — 2017, Kobe, Japon]

«Life was given to me in the Precambrian sea, about 5.9 billion years ago… Old fish taught me to survive in water, so I went to live with them in the deep ocean… Humans have a weapon called language. I dare not use it. I learned a very good way to greet: hug the other person and give kisses. So I send you my kisses!»
This was the only biography Chiyuki Sakagami allowed to be published. She lived in Kobe and was primarily interested in the evolution of the animal and plant world. Her works are made up of thousands of microscopic drops of paint applied with brushes of two or three hairs, on which she worked for months at a time, drawing inspiration from the depths of the oceans.
