RATZINGEROVA miloslava

[1904, Litomyšl, République Tchèque — 1990, Près De Litomysl, République Tchèque]

Miloslava Ratzingerová, whose level of schooling was equivalent to primary education, was a housewife married to a railway worker. Strongly influenced by the spiritism widespread at the time, she was marked by a strange encounter with a woman who approached her on a street in Prague and declared to her, without handing her anything: “I transmit to you the White Book.” She then felt an inner force that compelled her to draw. At the same period, she suffered from auditory hallucinations. The psychiatrist she consulted assured her that it was not a mental illness but a gift she must accept, and encouraged her to listen to her inner voice.
About forty drawings are known—most often portraits of women, some representing her mother at various stages of her life (according to the testimony of her great-nephew), others historical figures such as Queen Marie-Antoinette.
Alongside her visual creation, Ratzingerová produced a literary work of quality: poems and philosophical reflections. She is also said to have been gifted with clairvoyance.
