Laura Jo Pierce works at the Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, California. She is a very likable and positive person, entering every morning with a cheerful “Good Morning” and leaving with “Have a Good Evening.” She creates all day. She writes a sentence on paper, then covers it with a thin layer of gouache, leaving the sentence transparent before writing another on top of it. Her drawings function as a kind of a diary, part of which she apparently wishes to hide. Indeed, with this technique she accumulates the sentences in successive layers, however a large part is buried forever. She has composed this quilt first by writing on small pieces of fabric and then sewing them together to make this unique 4m2 piece.
