Since 2011, Fumiyasu Kumada has worked at the Yamanami studio in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. His artistic practice stems from an early fascination with water, which gradually shifted toward an everyday object: the toilet.
While still in elementary school, he began drawing toilets, and from the age of ten he started creating highly detailed cardboard models. Each work meticulously recreates an observed space with absolute precision: the color of the walls, the placement of elements, and the materials used to represent mirrors or pipes must all be faithfully reproduced.
The creation of these works is an intense process in which Kumada refuses any approximation. Once the model is completed, tension gives way to calm and a sense of achievement.
Through these miniature architectures, Fumiyasu Kumada transforms a familiar space into a subject of observation, revealing the precision of his gaze on the ordinary environments of everyday life
