Kapeller had to abandon his studies of technology after being diagnosed with a serious mental illness. Social services provided him with a room in a cramped and modestly furnished community-living apartment. “I draw for myself in my ghetto,” he likes to say. Night is a time for meditation and making art. One source of inspiration are his memories of reading and his studies. His work functions as both a diary and a form of protest against administrative procedures.
