GALLIENI jill

[1948, États Unis]

Jill Galliéni began making dolls at a very early age. Around the age of thirty, she embarked on a graphic and spiritual body of work: prayers addressed to Saint Rita of Cascia, patron saint of desperate causes.
Each morning, she begins with prayer and opens her notebook. With a black pen or colored ink, she records her supplications—rosaries of prayers with hidden meanings, repeated hundreds of times.
These prayers bear witness to an ongoing reflection on her spirituality, as well as to the long creative process that has spanned more than twenty years. Later, following the recommendations of the Italian saint, she would address further prayers to the Virgin Mary.
