Di GIOVANNI curzio

[1957, Lodi, Italie]

Suffering from a developmental disorder from birth that delayed his mental development, Di Giovanni joined the Fatebenefratelli Center near Milan at the age of twenty-two, where he began drawing in 2001. He draws inspiration from fashion magazines and reinterprets models and celebrities without limiting himself to faithful reproduction. He ignores the rules of proportion and anatomy, disrupts conventions, and offers new and surprising faces.
He places himself neither under the authority of photography nor in opposition to it, but diverts the image as a material for exploration. With pencil, he outlines the main elements of the head, then develops them through juxtaposed forms that convey shadows, wrinkles, folds, dark circles, hair, and singular features. The image fragments the face before colors recombine the whole. Through this metamorphosis of portraits, Di Giovanni reveals the polysemy of the face, the multiplicity of identities, and human fragility. After several years of intense practice, he abandoned drawing.
