JILKIN leonid

[1902, Russie — 1973, Russie]

We know only Leonide Jilkin’s dates of birth and death, and that this work comes from the Afonino psychiatric hospital near Yaroslavl. In his text “L’art brut russe, un goût de pierre à fusil” (Alexandre Lobanov et l’art brut en Russie), Paris, abcd, 2003, Régis Gayraud notes: “Powerful Soviet science inspires Leonide Jilkin to produce a deliciously ‘scientific’ text, proposing an experiment aimed at demonstrating that the weight of a chick upon hatching, added to that of fragments of eggshell, is equal to that of the whole egg before hatching. Is this a classic case of scientific paranoid delusion, or was the author more or less aware of the parodic nature of this technical discourse?”
