Self-taught, John Brill began photographing his daily life at a very young age. After studying physiological psychology, he worked as a beer truck driver and then as a school bus driver in Madison between 1970 and 1980. From analog images, in search of the incorporeal, like an alchemist, he transforms matter, refines it, keeping only the essence of beings—their aura. This spectral body of work evokes the spirit photographs of the late 19th century.
