BRENNER félix

[1955, Bâle, Suisse]

Felix Brenner left school at 13 and led a marginal life, marked by drug use, refusal of military service, and stints in prison. In 1980, he joined the Kunstgewerbeschule in Basel, received a grant and a residency in New York, with an exhibition at the Swiss Institute.
After several stays in psychiatric hospitals, he founded in 1987 the artistic and political movement “Blauer Planet.” He settled in the Jura, set up a studio, and conducted research in ethnobotany, before burning his artistic production and going into exile in Netherlands.
Back in Switzerland, in Altnau, he devoted himself to lithography and engraving, using an original technique combining digital photography and traditional lithography. He created his images digitally, printed them on rhodoid, transferred them onto photosensitive limestone, then added colored elements before printing, freely numbering each print and often incorporating self-portraits.
