It was in 2005 that Makoto Okawa began his artistic career by attending the Corners studio in Osaka. His highly colorful paintings, characterized by bold and saturated tones, draw inspiration from the surrounding architecture. He also creates felt dolls, nicknamed “makoot” (a reference to his first name) by his admirers, using the embroidery technique known as “punch needle.” Prolific in his work, he painted one thousand canvases and produced around four hundred “makoot” over the course of eleven years.
