In addition to having an intellectual disability, Josef Hofer was born deaf and is almost mute. Despite the social isolation imposed on him by his father for nearly forty years, he displays a strong personality. Drawing since 1985, he has developed a style that combines a childlike quality with eroticized, narcissistic, and at times exhibitionistic representations.
Since 1992, he has lived in a specialized institution. In his room, he installed a mirror.
