Very little is known about this elegantly carved sewing box, except that it was acquired in the United States. The photographs adorning its interior, lined with velvet, are signed by the Brussels studio of Gustave Narcisse, which may provide a clue to its origin. They show the same young woman on the left and in the center, and another on the right.
The lunch box, dating from the 1960s, was also manufactured in the United States. Newspaper clippings featuring politicians—such as the Kennedy family—as well as show business stars have been pasted on all its sides.
