As a young man, Karel Forman was a high-level boxer who won competitions. As boxing did not allow him to meet his family responsibilities, he trained as a baker but eventually became a truck driver and then a bus driver. Under the helpless gaze of his wife and children, Karel Forman carried out a veritable takeover of the family apartment, a 70 m² space located in a small town in Moravia—whose building façades are as bleak as the winter sky, typical of 1950s communist constructions. Week after week, month after month, year after year, he covered this apartment with thousands of magazine photographs, carefully arranged and organized, leaving not a single square centimeter free. Advertisements and photos of stars mingle with photographs of his own family.
