BRIZUELA Anibal

Institutionalized between 1963 and 2012 at the Oliveros Psychiatric Hospital in the province of Santa Fe, Aníbal Brizuela communicated very little but drew compulsively. His works, laden with religious and political symbols, form messages—perhaps oracles—which he displayed in various places throughout the hospital.
Although he worked in solitude, Brizuela nevertheless agreed to have his works shown to the public. At one such exhibition, he stated: “One day, I was fishing by the river and I saw a flying saucer […]. I looked at my fishing rod and when I raised my eyes, it was gone. I didn’t attach any importance to it.”
