LIMONTA Daldo Marte

1982 - La Havane - Cuba

As a child, Daldo Marte Limonta was extremely shy, withdrawn into his inner world and struggling to find his place in the adult world. His mother, a teacher, surrounded him with constant affection and most often kept him close to her at home. Like many children, he spent hours tinkering with toys and inventing characters—an activity from which he gradually developed his own method that he has used ever since.
Using materials gathered here and there, he brings to life animals, humanoid figures, spaceships, and all kinds of creatures drawn from his imagination, nourished by his favorite cartoons. To create relief forms, he cuts certain elements from the rubber of old tires—his material of choice—while others take shape through the assembly of various materials.
This same inventive approach has led him to create his own superhero costumes, which he sees as protective armor and wears during his public appearances. Deeply sensitive to the events he witnesses on television, such as war, and fully aware of their gravity, he willingly presents himself as a kind of vigilante or defender of justice.
