FIERET gerrit petrus (gerard petrus FIERET, known as)

[1924- 2009, La Haye, Pays-Bas]

Gerard Petrus Fieret was only two years old when his father abandoned the family. He was then placed in various homes and, during the Second World War, at the end of his adolescence, he was forced to work in Germany. Upon returning to The Hague, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. It was not until 1965 that he devoted himself exclusively to photography. Gerard Petrus Fieret captured everyday life in its rawest form. His models contributed to his taste for an unembellished realism. His negatives were mistreated, and the print paper was sometimes torn. He did not seek beauty but a form of raw truth from which emotion emerges. He asserted the uniqueness of his gaze by signing and stamping his photographs in various places with the inscription: COPYRIGHT – GERRIT PETRUS FIERET – P.O. BOX 117 – DEN HAAG – HOLLAND
