This group of photomontages is the work of a certain Mettraux. According to the person who brought it to our attention and assures us that this is not a pseudonym, the author wishes to keep part of his life secret; however, we were told that he is a compulsive collector of vernacular photographs, which he reappropriates to create these works. Based on the systematic pairing and superimposition of two portraits, they reveal a fascination with staging hybrid figures who seem to adopt a new identity by hiding behind the mask of another. On the back of each piece appears the name Mettraux; a stamp reads “original” and includes a date, between 2018 and 2020.
