BEKKI koumei

Bekki Koumei attends the Biwako center. His arrival at the art studio is invariably accompanied by the same ritual: he enters the studio, takes off his clothes, lies down, then gets dressed. He cannot stand the gaze of others and cannot create other than when he is on his own. He now works on ceramics, but he previously worked with the earth he found in the courtyard, mixing it with fiber threads, plants and tree branches which he would put in his mouth – substituting the gesture of the hand in order to create. As a result, he obtained a substance which he could shape into forms resembling insects. Koumei Bekki   also made molds from crushed cooked rice  he  called “omochi” (the  mochi  is  a preparation made from glutinous rice).
