Having suffered from polio, Warren Van Ess became quadriplegic and was confined to a wheelchair. He lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was then that he began his artistic career, using his mouth. His production is mostly classical, representing landscapes, portraits and horses. In the sixties, he started to create maps and plans of imaginary cities testifying to his ability to break away from more conventional representations.
