ROMANENKOV.Vasilij.1787

Vasilij Romanenkov was a native of a remote town in Russia, where traditions were still very much alive. Teenager, he moved in with relatives near Moscow for train as a cabinetmaker. At twenty-two, he began drawing. The themes he explores are related to the major moments of everyone’s life, from motherhood to funerals, often inscribed in architectural structures. He used to work as a gardener in the park of a hotel on the outskirts of Moscow,  until his untimely death from an aggressive form of cancer.
