William Carlton Rice declared that god healed him of a stomach ulcer on the night of April 24, 1960.Based on this revelation he decided to devote the rest of his life to creating his “Cross Garden,” populated with hundreds of crosses painted in white and bearing inscriptions to the glory of God Savior in black and red. His house, on the side of the road leading to Prattville, Alabama, and surrounded by approximately one hectare of land, gradually became a famous and visited environment. Rice added to the crosses numerous wooden and metal panels with apostrophes threatening the sinner to burn in hell. Still, Rice was a gracious man who gladly received visitors in the hope of saving them from the darkness. Since his death, his family has continued to maintain this environment.
