LOSA ramón

[1959, Villapalacios, Espagne]

Ramon Losa’s parents emigrated to France when he was two years old. The family stayed there for eleven years. Upon returning to Spain, they settled in Madrid. This change and the loss of reference points from his early childhood seem to have deeply affected him. At the age of 16, Losa began attending a drawing workshop before being admitted to the School of Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid. Very quickly, he rejected the rules of conduct and, having become uncontrollable, was eventually expelled. He decided to stop his studies and completed his military service. His psychological state then worsened. Upon returning to civilian life, he first moved into a small apartment away from his family, whom he later rejoined. In 1984, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, which led to numerous stays in hospital. Nevertheless, he continued with frenzied dedication to pursue his artistic work, taking part in many exhibitions. Losa’s work reflects chaos—of wars and destruction, of a world in agony. Using collage to clash wounded bodies and tormented souls, he creates spectacular frescoes reminiscent of large-scale projections of Hollywood films.
