At a very young age, Egidio Cuniberti joined Fiat in Turin, working in the foundry workshops. At the age of 24, following a bicycle accident, he underwent emergency surgery for a cerebral hemorrhage. This operation left him with many aftereffects: migraines, epileptic seizures, and insomnia.
In 1971, he had to stop working. Around that time, he began collecting waste from the streets and assembling it to create furniture, sculptures, and panels. He used fruit and vegetable crates for the structure of his furniture, which he covered with marquetry made of small industrial ice-cream sticks, plastic spoons, and pieces of wood that he painted and glued together. He produced around 130 pieces, including furniture—some exceeding 2 meters—panels, and totems.
From 2002 onward, his health declined, and his sister then took care of him until his death.
