In the early 1990s, an album—probably dating from 1860–1870—containing around fifty photographic collages was discovered in France. This body of work is known as “Obsession.” One of the photographs shows the newspaper La Lyonnaise, suggesting that the works may originate from Lyon. The album was dismantled over the years and the works dispersed; some are now part of various private and museum collections, including that of the Musée d’Orsay. The author of the album remains unknown and anonymous to this day. An excerpt from the album was published in 1993, alongside works by Hanne Darboven.
