These two gouache paintings were acquired from an elderly man who, every morning, sets up on a small folding stool at the exit of the Kinkaku-ji Temple (the Golden Pavilion) in Kyoto. Sitting there, he draws on his lap, always the same “spots” — stars, according to him.
