Gérard Schreiner was one of the first dealers interested in art brut. He was based for some time in Basel, then left for New York in the beginning of the 1980s and organized one of the first commercial exhibitions, assembling works of art brut of great quality; the exhibition was a commercial failure. Today, some of these works have landed again on the market and have attained very high prices. When Gérard Schreiner decided to leave the frenesy of art to live on a Brazilian island, with his animals, he sold his collection to abcd and thanks to the resulting financial revenues planted thousands of coconut trees.
