A set of boxes containing these strange human figures was discovered on the death of Frederick Hastings, then sold at auction in 2013. These productions, as enigmatic as they are frightening, raise a number of questions, first of all that of the sexuality of his androgynous beings: athletic males with female chest. These objects filed in a desk drawer were, for some, stored in cardboard boxes. The material used mixes metal, putty and real hair. The artistic intention of Frederick Hastings remains enigmatic and very little is known about his life. After a time spent in the merchant navy and trips to Europe and the United States, he lived as recluse with his brother in the family home in Pennsylvania.
