We know little about the life of Jaime Fernandes: a farm laborer, he married at the age of twenty-two years and was interned at thirty-seven for schizophrenia. Two decades would pass before he began to draw. Representing mainly human figures and animals, often intertwined to form a composite being, his figures are made up of many lines drawn in ballpoint pen or pencil. A kind of spiderweb surrounds them as well as composes them. At his death, his medical file as well as his drawings were almost all destroyed by the hospital authorities. Some of his works have however survived.
