SAGONA manuela

[1977, Livourne, Italie]

Manuela Sagona has attended the Blu Cammello workshop at the Franco Basaglia residential psychiatric center in Livorno since 1999. Her work is characterized by the strong stylization of her subjects and a pronounced decorative sensibility, while her clean lines evoke tattoos. Part of her work focuses on a single motif: a rose found in a magazine, which she develops into large, flat areas of color—like patterned “carpets” outlined in black.
Since 2006, Sagona has concentrated on depicting the hand, which has become her favorite subject. Writing is a major element in her work.
